Julie Gravell

Julie Gravell Counsellor MBACP ATSAC

I believe the relationship formed between the client and counsellor is fundamental to counselling. In a good relationship the client feels accepted without being judged, supported and believed in. I see therapy as a joint venture in which you work together to build a therapeutic relationship and work on the things you would like to improve in your life such as dealing with depression and anxiety and improving your relationships with others. I will work with you to find a more desirable, happier way forward for you in your day to day life.

In order to best suit your needs. I work integratively, which means blending a number of different theories and approaches, specialising in Psychodynamic and Person Centred. Psychodynamic focuses onself-awareness and understanding the influence of the past on present behaviour. Person Centred therapy recognises that individuals are full of potential for growth. It gives the client the space and safety to share their concerns. I also draw on Attachment Theory and Transactional Analysis.

Before Counselling I spent many years working creatively in the music industry. I am also a qualified teacher and have worked with dementia, NACRO and Adult Education.

I am a counsellor registered with the BACP and ATSAC. I hold a Diploma in Therapeutic Counselling and a Higher Diploma with ISAT. Other qualifications include the Transactional Analysis 101. I previously worked at The Awareness Centre in Clapham for 18 months as a placement counsellor working with low cost and NHS clients. I currently work privately at The Awareness Centre Tooting, seeing clients on an open-ended basis. I believe counselling should be accessible to all and I am therefore fully committed to Complementary Care.
